Overivew and History of the Rescue

There are millions of dogs around the country who find their way to shelters that cannot sustain the population of unwanted and discarded dogs. These shelters hold the dogs temporarily while hoping to adopt them to responsible owners. Unfortunately, because there are not enough willing adopters, thousands of perfectly healthy, well-behaved dogs are euthanized every day. This is where Helping Hounds Dog Rescue (HHDR) steps in. HHDR attempts to provide permanent stays of execution for adoptable dogs by bringing them to Central New York, providing housing as well as emotional, medical and behavioral support while finding suitable “forever homes.” More...

Beagle Family Travels to Empire State in Search of New Beginning, Thanks to Helping Hounds Dog Rescue

Seven even-tempered, gentle beagles were destined for certain death in a Tenessee shelter until fate intervened on a cold January night in 2009. Thus was born Helping Hounds Dog Rescue. Since then, these dogs and hundreds of other four-legged friends have journeyed north, all with new “leashes” on life.

Puppies are cute, but they eventually grow up. At Helping Hounds, we know the wonderful qualities of older dogs. They are generally housebroken (or at least crate-trained). While still full of life, they are less mischievous and better behaved. They are eager to please.

Our mission is to take unwanted, neglected, abused, stray or homeless dogs and provide them with emotional, medical, behavioral and physical support so they can be adopted into loving permanent homes. Helping Hounds Dog Rescue is dedicated to giving beagles and their hound cousins new beginnings, because second hand doesn’t mean second best.

Helping Hounds Dog Rescue Inc. is a New York Not-for-Profit 501(c)(3) corporation.
